“I think that was the most important moment of my life because we were the stars of the night and I don’t know if I will do that again, but it was fun.”
–PCM After School Participant “My entire family participated in a Parent/Tot Music Time session put on by the Phoenix Conservatory of Music. It was an incredibly fun, bonding time for my husband and I with our three young children. The children gained more from it than I can even put into words. They learned about rhythms, they sang, danced, played instruments for the first time and interacted with other children. Their experience carried through to our home, where months later they continue to sing the songs they learned and pretend to be music teachers. These classes are an asset to families in our community.” -Beth K. Ott, Goodyear resident “The class was great. Our teacher did a fantastic job! She really worked above and beyond to insure my son got the most he could from the class by spending more time with him and leading him on ahead of the class since he was getting things faster!” - Estrella Mountain Community College Guitar Participant “Actual demonstration of use of instruments, books and songs helped because teachers need models too. I will try to add ‘fun’, movement, rhythm elements to the literature I share with the children. It gave me the idea to work with other teachers to make the literature we present stronger” – Tonia Easton, Professional Development Workshop Attendee for Music Learning Tools for Teachers “The PCM teachers are experts at teaching our curriculum in new ways through music. It is not just about singing and playing instruments, but about mathematics, reading, social studies, and science. For example, my students learned about patterns, addition, and the life cycle of a chick during one lesson that took only 30 minutes. Afterward, my students understood each concept and could apply them. I was amazed at the learning. Also, the students' attentions are held through out a PCM lesson. Why? According to my last year's class, "They make learning fun and exciting!" -Christina Ellis, Litchfield Elementary School, Kindergarten Teacher “No other organization in Phoenix is providing exactly the services provided by PCM: bringing music directly to students in their own communities (schools, neighborhoods, community centers) rather than requiring students to come to them; providing a wide range of offerings, from world music classes to learning-English-through-music/movement, private vocal and instrumental lessons. PCM also organized a professional development series for teaching artists, open to all in the community who teach arts (not just those involved in a particular program or on a particular roster).” - Teaching Artist, Cynthia Elek “The only thing that can make this class better is Margaritas!” -Adult Guitar Student, Dysart Community Education, Dysart Unified School District, Surprise, Arizona
