During the 2008-2009 school year, The Phoenix Conservatory of Music (PCM) and Papago Elementary School have partnered to produce the project Rhythms of the Heart: A Celebration of Latin Music!

The project is a year long after school residency that was developed with the idea of providing the very under served, at risk, impoverished 21st Century After School Student Community with the opportunity to be mentored by internationally acclaimed artists from Flor Y Piedra (Peter Torsiello and Liliana de Leon Torsiello, www.florypiedra.com ),  Nosotrosound (Hector Martinez, www.nosotrosound.com ), and Ruth Lara Vichules (www.ruthlaravichules.com) 2 days per week for exciting, music fun!

The project will culminate with an exciting show of original works and collaboration showcasing the learning that has been happening with the Papago Students in two exciting, pulse pounding performances at the Herberger Theater Center, Stage West.  This students not only will have the opportunity to show off what they have been learning  for an entire year, but perform in a professional theater with a large scale professional performing ensemble of 23+ cast members!

  •  Calo Flamenco's Martin Gaxiola
  • Saxophonist David Crozier
