Please join us in Thanking our PCM Guest Artists as they join Peter Torsiello and Liliana de Leon of Flor Y Piedra and PCM's 21st Century After School Students from Papago School in the sensational Rhythms of the Heart Nuevo Flamenco Show!! Help us in welcoming to the stage May 13th and 14th at the Herberger Theater, Stage West, 7:00pm (Get your tickets today for just $15.00!): Calo Flamenco's Martin Gaxiola. Martin is the founder and artistic director of CALO FLAMENCO: Ballet de Martin Gaxiola, one of the largest flamenco music and dance ensembles in the US and based in Phoenix, AZ. (www.caloflamenco.com) Bass Player Lynn Woolever. Lynn has worked with music greats such as Clarence Clemons, Musical director/bassist Tony Brock (The Babys, Rod Stewart, Jeff Beck), Tori Amos, Rickey Lee Jones, TheMarvellettes The Drifters, Marcy Levy (Eric Clapton /co-writer- Lay Down Sally), Frank Potenza, Brooklyn Dreams. Percussionist Johnny Sandoval. Percussionist Johnny Sandoval is a musical tour de force. He starting playing bongos at age 5, now he has an arsenal of sounds and charisma on stage that commands your attention when he takes a solo. Johnny has toured with Sister Sledge, Arturo Sandoval, Bloodstone, Joe Bataan, The Miracles, Ry Coder, Chuchito Zaldez, Jim Keltner, and many more. Sandoval can also be heard on movie soundtacks that include Mel Gibson's" Ransom" and Brad Pitt's "The Devils Own," and internationally popular televsion show "Sabado Gigante." and dozens and dozens of recordings. Saxophonist David Crozier. Originally from Flagstaff, Arizona, David began playing professionally at the age of 15. You may have seen him interviewed on 'Entertainment Tonight' along with Kenny G and Clarence Clemons or heard his Sax on TV shows and commercials as well as Jazz, Pop and R & B radio stations. A featured performer at the Santa Barbara International Jazz Festival, David is currently playing with the Brian Setzer Rockin' Big Band. He has also played with members of Earth, Wind & Fire, Oingo Boingo, Tom Jones, Jeff Lorber Fusion, Air Supply, Ernie Watts and Chicago. Singer Patricia Munley - Almardiente Flamenco Dancers Lauren Santiago and Wendy Castellanos. Almardiente Flamenco is a dance company comprised of seven young artists with diverse cultural dance backgrounds ranging from Classical Ballet to Afro-Cuban, but it is through Flamenco, that Almardiente has found what ignites the flames of its inspiration. Alma, meaning soul, and ardiente, meaning ardent or fiery. Almardiente: Women, traditional Flamenco, L.A. style.
We'd also like to welcome Singer Songwriter Simona Olson Violinist Josiah Steiner Dancer Michale "Chase" Bell Dancer Kerrel Brown PCM Artists: Hector Martinez, Andres Martinez, and Regina Nixon And the Rhythm's Dance Team made up of 9 talented young dancers that have been studying under Liliana de Leon! (Melissa Garcia, Zeeba Hobbehydar, Jordan Kolbaba, laurie Petrakovitz, Nychole Martinez, Michelle Stone, Alyxis Trujillo, Christopher Valdez, Brittany Webber).
These artists have given their time and talent to help our young people from Papago School experience the miracle of hard work and dedication that leads to performance. All of these artists are passionate about giving of themselves back to the community and The audiece will be treated to an artistic production of original works from Flor Y Piedra and student collaborated work that inspires, engages, and entertains! Rhythms of the Heart- How Can You Help? These students are amazing! We need your help in making sure these programs are around for a really long time. Here are some very simple things that you can do to help! - Buy tickets to the show!
- Purchase an ad in our program. (1/4 Page is $10, ½ Page is $20 and Full Page is $45)
- Give an item to be raffled at the event
- Sponsor the house. (Each night, there are 250 tickets for sale at $15.00 each.)
- Sponsor the guest artist's hotel rooms at $80.00 per night for 4 rooms for 4 nights
- Purchase tickets for our students families to be able to see the show.
- Buy dinner for the kids and artists backstage during the dress rehearsal and performance night.

During the 2008-2009 school year, The Phoenix Conservatory of Music (PCM) and Papago Elementary School have partnered to produce the project Rhythms of the Heart: A Celebration of Latin Music! The project is a year long after school residency that was developed with the idea of providing the very under served, at risk, impoverished 21st Century After School Student Community with the opportunity to be mentored by internationally acclaimed artists from Flor Y Piedra (Peter Torsiello and Liliana de Leon Torsiello, www.florypiedra.com ), Nosotrosound (Hector Martinez, www.nosotrosound.com ), and Ruth Lara Vichules (www.ruthlaravichules.com) 2 days per week for exciting, music fun! The project is culminating with an exciting show of original works and collaboration showcasing the learning that has been happening with the Papago Students in two exciting, pulse pounding performances at the Herberger Theater Center, Stage West. This students not only will have the opportunity to show off what they have been learning for an entire year, but perform in a professional theater with a large scale professional performing ensemble of 23+ cast members!
